There are days when I wonder if I'm talking to an empty room.
I open social media, share another photo, another video, another blog post, and quietly hope that maybe today someone new will discover Drift & Dwell. Maybe today someone will pause long enough to see what I've spent countless hours creating.
Sometimes they do. Most days, they don't.
Two years ago, I made the decision to step away from social media.
Not because of a dramatic event. I simply needed the quiet. I wanted to spend more time living life than documenting it, and for nearly two years I was almost completely off the grid. Friends joked that they thought I had disappeared. A few even asked if I was still alive.
To those people, thank you. Thank you for realizing I had been missing.
When I came back, it felt like pressing the reset button on everything.
The algorithms had forgotten me. The audience I once had was gone. Looking back, they probably weren't the audience Drift & Dwell needed anyway, but there was still comfort in knowing someone was there. Starting over can feel surprisingly lonely.
One thing I should probably apologize for...If you're one of my friends or family members, you've probably noticed I've gone from posting almost nothing...to posting what feels like everything. Trust me, I notice it too.
There are days when I wonder if you're thinking, "Tyler...we get it. You made another video." and truthfully, I see your eyes roll, even if it is all in my head.
The truth is, this isn't because I've suddenly become obsessed with social media. It's because I've poured every ounce of myself into building Drift & Dwell, and right now social media is one of the few ways I have to introduce it to the world. Every post, every photo, every video, and every blog is another chance for someone who has never heard of Drift & Dwell to stumble across it. So thank you for your patience.
Thank you for every like, every comment, every share, and even for simply letting me take up a little extra space in your feed while I chase this dream.
I'm hoping that somewhere between all those posts is the one that reaches the person who's been looking for exactly what I've created.
Creating Drift & Dwell has taught me something I never expected. Making the product is only part of the journey. Finding the people who connect with it is the other.
Every day I come across other small business owners doing exactly what I'm doing. Photographing products on kitchen tables. Editing videos late into the night. Writing captions, sharing stories, and hoping the right people somehow find them.
Whenever I see those posts, I stop scrolling. Because I know exactly how they feel.
Sometimes I wonder how businesses grew before social media. Before algorithms decided who got seen. They built communities. They earned trust. One customer told another. It was slower, but maybe it was simpler.
Today, it often feels like we're all waiting for an invisible system to decide whether our work deserves to be seen.
I genuinely love supporting other small businesses because I know they're chasing the same dream I am. And maybe that's what keeps all of us going. The belief that one day our work will find the people it was always meant for. Drift & Dwell isn't just another business idea. It's every fragrance I've tested again and again. Every label I've redesigned. Every late night spent learning photography, building a website, writing these blogs, filming videos, and questioning whether I should redesign everything one more time. It's become a piece of me.
So no... I'm not chasing followers. I'm chasing the people who appreciate slow mornings, quiet evenings, meaningful details, and homes that feel lived in. If social media helps us find each other, then it's doing exactly what it was meant to do.
I'm hoping to find the people who believe that home should be a feeling, not just a place. The ones who appreciate slow mornings, quiet evenings, meaningful details, and the quiet rituals that make a house feel lived in. If social media helps us find each other, then it's doing exactly what it was meant to do.
Someone who values the little details as much as I do. Someone who believes that home should feel like more than just four walls.
Maybe they'll find Drift & Dwell through Pinterest.
Maybe through a YouTube Short.
Maybe through Google.
Or maybe they'll find this blog first.
However they arrive, I hope they feel the care that's been poured into every bottle, every photograph, every word, and every detail. If you're building something of your own, I hope you keep going too. Whether it's a business, an idea, or simply the life you've always wanted to create, remember that most meaningful things spend a long time being invisible before they're discovered.
One day someone might look at Drift & Dwell and assume it appeared overnight.
It didn't.
It was built one fragrance, one conversation, one blog post, and one quiet evening at a time. If you're reading this today, thank you.
You're here before most people even know this story has begun and someday, I hope you'll be able to say you were here at the beginning.
And that means more than you probably realize.
